Neoclassical & Cinematic Composer

The Story

For VEGSO, music began with curiosity — and the memory of watching his grandfather play.

Growing up in Hungary, Sándor Végső found his own way into music through technology and experimentation. As a teenager he began making music on a computer, drawn to the possibilities of shaping sound without following a conventional route through classical training.

From beats to composition

In the late 1990s, Hungary’s underground hip-hop scene became his creative starting point. As a rapper, songwriter and producer — including work under the name The Player — he learned how rhythm, texture and arrangement could carry a story. After moving to England in 2004, he continued exploring studio recording and working with musicians across borders and genres.

Those experiences became part of a wider musical vocabulary. His work with the Mentalbeatz project, co-founded in 2010, belonged to that chapter of exploration and collaboration.

Finding the piano

Over time, film music and the expressive possibilities of the piano drew him toward a quieter, more melodic sound. The neoclassical single Years appeared in 2015, marking an important new direction. Rather than leaving his production background behind, he brought its sensitivity to atmosphere and detail into his piano-led compositions.

Music for stories

The album Core Identity (2022) and subsequent solo-piano work helped define VEGSO’s musical voice: intimate melodies, cinematic textures and emotional space. In 2026 he composed the original soundtrack for Josh Westover’s documentary Colours Of Us, expanding that approach into a full-length screen score.

Today, VEGSO continues to write music for listening and for picture, moving between solo piano, strings and atmospheric composition — always looking for the emotion at the heart of a piece.
